Art

Chaparrelle plays with a range of mediums. You can find sculpture, drawing, painting, poetry, illustration and abstracts in her work. To Chaparrelle, art is at its core a form of self-expression and connection to other beings. A personal experience. A way of knowing. And a method to scrape out clinging inner unconscious scraps into the conscious realm. As a result, her work has evolved over time alongside her developing mind. In the past, she explored the intersections of nature and urbanization growing up in Los Angeles in an exposition titled Beauty and The Abyss (2011) located at The Smell in Downtown Los Angeles. This show was comprised of sculpture, collage, painting, drawing and interactive works. In San Francisco her show titled You Could be Funny Too (2015) at The Brew used illustration to understand the complexities of seemingly mundane human experiences and the innate desire to feel a sense of belonging. Other notable venues she has exhibited her work at include The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (2010) and Barnsdall Art Park Foundation (2010). Her current work has merged into the abstract realm to work through feelings of vulnerability, oppression and boundaries and aims to blur the lines between culture and identity through vivid portals to belonging. In her most recent art show titled Face It (2024) she invited viewers to face their own version of reality in a world of increasing technology, isolation and an abundance of trash and shipping boxes from online purchases. The pieces were made of trash and found objects.
